It goes without saying that the novel coronavirus has impacted the health of the general population. In the US alone, more than 363,000 people have died as a result of complications from the virus. Another impact that COVID-19 has had on people, however, deals with mental health. Inmy blog this month, I wrote about this in detail. People miss social interactions and the connections involved, but better days are on the horizon.
In the meantime, while we look at 2021 with optimism, it is important to consider not only your mental health, but also the well-being of your employees and colleagues. In a Harvard Business Review article from this past November, Deborah Grayson Riegel outlines the importance of discussing mental health with employees.
While it may be a bit daunting, it ultimately has become a necessary task in the strange days we live in. I highly recommend looking at her advice. If nothing else, consider this bit of wisdom:
“…It’s not enough to just listen, you need to do it well.”
